49ers Get Beat At Home By The Colts, 27-7
A week after the huge 49ers-Seahawks match up, the 49ers limped back home to play Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts.
You would think the Niners would be mad and embarrassed by their performance in Seattle. You would think that the Niners would come out and play with some pride and pick apart the Colts. Instead, the 49ers laid a huge egg at Candlestick Park yesterday as they fall to Indianapolis by the score of 27-7.
Now let’s give credit where credit is due. The Indianapolis Colts are a solid football team. They have a franchise quarterback in Andrew Luck, and they now have a major running attack with their recent acquisition of Trent Richardson from Cleveland.
But for the 49ers to get dominated at home the way they did is very surprising. Colin Kaepernick looked like a shell of himself in this game. Kaepernick only had 150 passing yards and was frustrated all day. He also threw one pick.
To be fair though, Kaepernick was and IS playing without two of his main weapons in Vernon Davis and Michael Crabtree. Not to make excuses, but this needs to be pointed out. Late last season, Crabtree was one of Kaepernick’s favorite targets, and the Kaepernick-Crabtree connection lead the Niners all the way to the Super Bowl.
On the other side, Colts’ quarterback Andrew Luck didn’t have a huge game either, numbers wise. Luck threw for only 164 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions. But he did put a cap on this game late.
Jim Harbaugh had to sit back and watch his defense melt down late in this game as his former Stanford quarterback rumbled into the end zone for a 6 yard touchdown. That Luck TD run put the game out of reach and it cemented Colin Kaepernick’s first ever home game loss of his career.
And to make matters worse, it looks like the Niners are going to be without their talented pass rusher Aldon Smith for awhile. Earlier in the week, Smith was stopped in San Jose and was booked for a DUI. Now Smith is going into a treatment program to get help for his drinking. Like most 49ers’ fans should do, I applaud this move by the Niners and Aldon Smith. The kid needs help, and if it comes at the expense of the team being with out him for a few games, so be it.
The 49ers are now 1-2 after this brutal loss and are now chasing their hated rival Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks completely blew out a hapless Jacksonville Jaguars team by the score of 45-17. But their is some good news. The rest of the NFC West teams lost yesterday. The 49ers have to turn this around quick because they play another one of their NFC West rivals, the St. Louis Rams on Thursday Night Football. Hopefully, Kap and the rest of the guys will have a better showing. The Rams are no pushover though as they played the Niners tough last season.
